Stephan Reusse. Works 2003–1982 (book and invitation card)

The works of the German photo artist Stephan Reusse hover about the boundaries of the visible world. On the book cover, this experimentation with perception is represented by graphic means: Depending on the perspective, an arrow becomes visible or invisible.

The bilingual catalogue raisonné covering the years 1982 to 2003 contains photography from five categories. The most current and most extensive group of works is constituted by thermography: With an infrared camera, Stephan Reusse photographed traces of warmth in recently vacated beds and espied wolves in the dark.

The temperature/tonal value scale of these “thermographs” is featured on the spine of the book, in the table of contents and in the transitions between chapters.
The invitation card for the exhibit can be set up like a room, and through a punched-out hole the observers, like hunters, can catch sight of a wolf.

“To make visible what is beyond the reach of visibility has always been an inspiration to art, regardless of whether it was to serve the public good or to explore new artistic territories.” Klaus Honnef
